1.43 – Blame The Gays?

In the wake of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, people are speaking up left and right. But much more on the right. Opinions, like orifices I cannot quite name, seem to exist though we’d rather pretend a few of them didn’t. All they do, in my opinion, is spew unnecessary garbage or in this case…excuse my language…bullshit.

Mind you, I’m not a journalist, by any means. We all know that. I know about as much as the next person, maybe even less. Here’s what I do know (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong).

A former member of the Penn State Football Coaching team was “allegedly” involved in sexual child abuse over the course of 15 years. Jerry Sandusky is linked to numerous accounts of sexual acts and inappropriate behavior with students. In 1998, one mother came forward with a complaint that her child had taken a shower with Sandusky. Much of this was reported to Joe Paterno who told his boss. And that was it. Allegations of falsified documents and a lack of reporting such crimes to the police cause for more speculation of how much people knew and how much of that knowledge was knowingly ignored.

You really cant ignore the story. It’s kind of everywhere. The latest link to this story is the assumption that this travesty at Penn State is somehow linked to homosexuality.

Bryan Fischer, some guy I’ve never even heard of  from the American Family Association said “It’s a simple, stubborn fact that homosexuals molest children at much higher rates than the heterosexual population…This is one of the reasons the Boy Scouts have every right to keep homosexuals from becoming Boy Scout leaders.”

Jerry Cox went on to second that notion, linking the Penn State ordeal with same-sex parents adopting.

Peter LaBarbera, the president of Americans For The Truth About Homosexuality, expressed his fear that the boys assaulted would grow up to think they were gay due to the acts performed against them. In his press release, LaBarbera stated:
Thus, how many boy victims of homosexual predator Sandusky will end up believing that being homosexual (“gay”) is “who they are”? How many will struggle with sexual identity issues? And how many will be told by LGBT advocates and liberal-minded people just to “accept being gay” as “who they are” because they were “born that way”?

Furthermore, this guy went on to state:

“Sandusky is married but obviously has a homosexuality (perversion) problem. Yet pro-“gay” liberals will deny any linkage between homosexuality and Sandusky’s rape/seduction of boys…Behavior is the issue, and this was a case of a serial homosexual predator raping boys.”

And lastly,

“Many openly homosexual (“gay”) men, like CNN anchor Don Lemon, were molested as boys or experienced abnormally early sexualization.”

You know something…

Maybe these psycho right-wing extremists have a point. I mean, when all else fails: BLAME THE GAYS! We did it for years with the Blacks, Mexicans, the Jews, even the Native Americans were kind of at fault for not being all civilized and whatnot. Those bastards. The world is just one big problem child – must have a gay parent. Girls are getting pregnant younger and younger – damn those gays. Wall Street – the gays! Taxes – THE GAYS! Divorce…can’t blame that on them yet but hell why not – THE GAYS! Hurricane Katrina – THE GAYS! The gays are also responsible for the Lindenburg baby thing, Amelia Earhart – you know they took that poor innocent woman, they probably are stealing all of those babies who keep dying or disappearing from responsible drunk partying parents.

Don Lemon, that successful news anchor for CNN, yep, he’s definitely a threat to the world with all of his gayness. And hell, he most certainly was corrupted to be “the gay” with every other molested child in the world.

To insinuate that anyone who was sexually abused by someone of the same sex would turn out gay is asinine. These people should be ashamed of themselves. To take away from the trauma felt by the victims is horrific. Instead of focusing on what can be done to protect people from such ill will, let’s insert our personal agenda and blame the gays.

Is this about politics? Is this about religion? Apparently, in most peoples eyes, thats all one and the same. Lets say its about religious belief; ask any right wing extremist why they hate the gays and God will inevitably be the answer…that or the bible. Gotta love that book.

So this is religion based, yet again. You know what I think. Religion is an attention whore. Always got to be up in everyones business. But here’s the thing. I don’t see religion crucifying, pun intended, straight people who just want to kill off their kids, serial killers who work in the house of God, people who spew hate at veterans funerals. I don’t see these representatives of “family” organizations speak up for all of the straight people responsible for genocide, bigotry, hate, poverty and degradation. Must have been the gays again.

Have gay people sexually abused other people? Yes. Does that mean we should fear every gay person? If your answer is yes, I guess in your eyes, I should fear every christian, white, successful male because the media tells me this type of person is more likely to be a serial killer. I should be weary of men touching my child because women don’t do that sort of thing.

These extremists are not concerned for the well-being of the victims of abuse. A lot of people aren’t – chanting Paterno’s name as if he is a martyr despite his silence. Staying silent while abuse occurred for the sake of “normalcy” is a damn shame. Using gays as a scapegoat is a damn shame. The ugliness displayed by those extremist hate filled mongers is a damn shame. And when those people meet their maker, whatever that experience may be like – and they are asked who lost site of why we are here – it will be the one time those sorry excuses for human beings will not be able to blame the gays.

Love is just love and that desire to give and receive love from another consenting adult has NOTHING to do with the sickness of the mind, body and soul of one sad individual.

I now return you to a full viewing of the first episode of Queer as Folk, already in progress. Enjoy.

  1. Okay first of all GREAT post and thank you. I think the “blame the gays” factor really doesn’t help anybody, much less actually solve anything. But it sure seems easier than blaming dear old JoePa!

Second, ever notice that there’s the assumption that lesbians are lesbians because they were assaulted by a man, but a gay man is gay because he was assaulted by a man? Like.. That doesn’t even make sense.

    • Thank you for the comment. A lot of theories from the weirdos who run things don’t make sense. I’m beginning to think I should make my own country where stupid isn’t allowed.
